Go Tankless! State of the Art Water Heaters
Imagine
never running out of hot water! — Yes,
you can have an endless hot shower, or fill your tub
leaving plenty of hot water for your significant other.
So
what exactly is all the buzz about tankless water heaters,
and why are people flocking in droves to this technology?
Below, we review six basic advantages a tankless water
heater offers over a conventional tank heater.
Advantage
1: Beat rising energy costs
Cut your gas bill by up to half, or more. Remember,
conventional water heaters keep water hot inside a storage
tank 24-hours a day, seven days a week; to contrast,
tankless water heaters work on demand (or only when
you need it—see below “how they work”).
Advantage
2: Always hot
A basic unit can run up to three showers simultaneously
without ever running out of hot water. That’s
right, turn your showers on, go to Las Vegas for the
weekend, and return to hot water (though we do not recommend
this)!
Advantage
3: Smaller IS better
Tankless water heaters are about one fifth the size
of a regular tank. This means more space (which is important
in California) and an aesthetically superior appliance.
Plus you can relocate the tankless heater outdoors or
into the attic.
Advantage
4: You guessed it, environmentally conscience
Like hybrid vehicles, demand for tankless water heaters
is soaring. Why? They use up to 50% less fossil fuel
(emitting fewer dangerous NOx emissions) than a conventional
tank. However, unlike a performance-challenged hybrid
vehicle, you receive superior performance from a tankless.
Advantage
5: Safer—avoid flood and scalding risk
Do you have sentimental stockpiles or other valuables
exposed to flood risk in your garage? Is your water
heater indoors or upstairs? Eliminate the tank, and
you dramatically decrease flood risk.
In
addition, you can lower your risk of scalding. Tankless
water heaters have highly accurate temperature settings.
Conversely, a tank heater’s temperature can vary
by up to 15 degrees. Is your tank delivering a scalding
125 degrees or a comfortable 110 degrees? This should
be a consideration for homes with seniors or children.
Advantage
6: Superior technology equals dependability and LONG
LASTING
Tankless technology has been around for nearly 100 years,
and mastered over the past 50 years by a company called
Nortiz, the world’s largest manufacturer of tankless
water heaters. As a result, tankless water heaters are
extremely reliable, and they have fewer warranty issues
and can last well over 25 years.
How does it work?
Since there is no tank, a tankless water heater works
on demand. In other words, turning on a hot water appliance
automatically activates the water heater. As water travels
through the unit (inside a heat exchanger), a gas burner
heats the water up to 176 degrees (we recommend temperatures
under 120 degrees). Because it works on demand, it heats
water when you need it, and therefore never runs out.
How Do I get One?
As with any major retrofit application, choose your
contractor wisely. Advanced Water Heaters installs more
Noritz tankless water heaters than any other company
in the USA (they are licensed, bonded, have worker’s
compensation, etc.). Remember, big doesn’t always
equal best. But naturally, when a company specializes
in one product, say tankless water heaters, the result
is a high-quality installation at an unbeatable rate.
With
all the advantages a tankless water heater has over
a traditional tank heater, it is no wonder why so many
Southern Californians are making the transition to go
tankless.
